Time: 3:30pm - 6:00pm PST

On the agenda

Enjoy a glass of wine and light bites while you hear from one of California's leading beverage law attorneys. Stick around after to connect with fellow producers and the Vinoshipper team.

New AB 720 / Type 93 Estate Tasting Event Permit

Signed into law in October 2025 and effective January 1, AB 720 lets qualified winegrowers host limited tasting events at vineyard sites outside their bonded premises. Napa and Sonoma are already interpreting it differently, and other counties are still figuring out framework. John will walk through where things stand now, where the open questions are, and why this is one to keep watching as counties weigh in.

Potential Amendments to California's “Winemaker Dinner” Tied-House Exceptions

California’s legislature is evaluating a new law that would expand the ability of wineries to use videos to advertise “winemaker dinners” and other instructional tasting events held at retailer premises.  John will cover what's allowed and what's still off-limits.

The three-tier system under challenge

How we got here, what Granholm did and didn't settle, and how recent rulings are reshaping the wholesale tier. John will trace the legal arc from post-Prohibition to today, walk through the cases pushing on three-tier right now, and lay out what producers across consumer, DTC, and wholesale should be thinking about, and watching for, in the near term.
